1 Year of Pineapple Images

July 1st marks 1 year of pineapple images.

International Pineapple Day was technically a few days ago; however, it's July 1st that is our special pineapple day!

What started from the overuse of the pineapple emoji became a total of 195 free pineapple images and a shop full of premium pineapple images for purchase. I was never sure what would happen with posting photos of pineapples one the internet, but it turned out there are many other fans of the pineapple all over the world.

The mark of a full year on this project is a massive milestone for myself. I typically love starting things and then abandoning for something else. I know it's important to keep trying new things to find something that sticks, but it's these amazing pineapples that seem to have stuck.  All throughout this side-projects, I've been doing my best to track and be transparent about everything. I've also found it very important to celebrate milestones! This is what this blog post is all about: Celebrating 1 year of pineapple images!

Pineapple Photos in Quarter 1 of 2016

Today, as I share stats related to my pineapple photos, I am humbled by the process of adding new free photos almost daily for people to use.

Tracking stats related to my pineapple images was something I stopped doing monthly because the tracking was time-consuming. But then, Unsplash went and created a brand new stats page and I could quickly figure out my most basic photo metrics for these awesome pineapples.

In this post, I'll bring up and share:

  • Quarter 1 views, downloads, and likes that were received on the photos through Unsplash tracking. This is the beauty of using Unsplash as a host and distributor of my pineapple photos. Not to mention, Unsplash Source helps me share the photos easily and I believe the views are still tracked.
  • All time pineapple photo views, downloads, and likes
  • The top 5 most popular pineapple images as per the Unsplash algorithm.
  • If Pineapples.io is making any money from giving away photos and how
  • Where the pineapples community is at in terms of total followers
  • Struggles in Quarter 1

Pineapples in 2015: Some things just click

Sometimes things just click. That's how Pineapples has felt since I started taking photos of them for this unusual side project. The support I've seen in 6 months has been amazing and it wasn't until December that I really went all in providing free pineapple photos and being active across social media. This post is meant to be as transparent as possible with what's happening on Pineapples.io. I'll share social stats and metrics for all the free pineapple photos were uploaded in 2015. At the end, I'll also talk about going into 2016!

On Being Open, Transparent, and Accountable

I am inspired to be as open and transparent with Pineapples as I can be. I've been inspired having worked with Unsplash at Crew and always loved the openness that a company like Buffer displays.  I find it fascinating when I can learn what's going on backstage with a product, business, or website.

I find it fascinating when I can learn what's going on backstage with a product, business, or website.  Since this is my own project, I also need to find a way to keep myself accountable.
